DATE EVENT
6/8/99
  • Visited Chirnside Park PS in the morning to sort out some 'communication' problems with the curriculum server. All computers could log on to the server, although Front Page '98 wouldn't respond.
  • First visit to Gladesville PS, where the puzzle was solved about the 'Buxton Annexe.' Gladesville exists on TWO sites, the main school being in Kilsyth and the 'annexe' being in Buxton, both under the jurisdiction of one principal. A date was made for a visit to the annexe in early September. They will be studying their local area, particularly concentrating upon a unique sanctuary developed by the school itself.
  • Back to Chirnside Park PS in the afternoon for an introductory session on Front Page '98 with the Grade 6 students. After further unsuccessful attempts at getting the server to be 'social' with the network, a local computer in one of the classrooms was chosen as a 'host' for the web pages and everything proceeded smoothly for the rest of the afternoon.
12/8/99
  • Inservice on Front Page '98 and Kid Pix at Badger Creek PS, (4 - 8 pm) with Peter Johnson and Andrew Ferrier from SERCT. A very productive evening.
13/8/99
  • Wandin North PS in the morning for the first session of writing web pages using Front Page '98. Once again the curriculum server wouldn't cooperate and another computer was assigned as the host. The problem this time was associated with IP addresses. The classroom computers were having their IP's assigned by the ADMIN server, instead of the CURRICULUM server. Somehow their system has been set up incorrectly. Fortunately the session went smoothly.
  • Seville PS for further discussions and test installations of Front Page '98 on three computers. Success with the server (about time!) Date organised for a further visit before the end of term.
  • Chirnside Park PS for the second session of web pages with Grade 6 students. Chirnside Park students are transferring a recent historical project to their web pages.
20/8/99
  • Wandin North PS in the morning for the second session of writing web pages. The students are becoming quite proficient at using Front Page.
  • Chirnside Park PS in the afternoon for their third session. Once again the children are progressing extremely well.
24/8/99
  • Nina Netherway visited Billanook PS to conduct a brief inservice on web page authoring.
26/8/99
  • Visited Lilydale HS for an inservice with staff on web page authoring. Lilydale prefer to use Netscape Composer for their YROLN project. The session was quite productive.
27/8/99
  • Wandin North PS for the third web page session. The simplest solutions are often the best. It was discovered that the IP address of their curriculum server was inferior to the rest of the school's computers. Bringing it in line with a manually inserted IP made the difference. This was our last visit to the school for Term 3.
  • Visited Upper Yarra SC to check up on their progress.
  • Visited Lilydale HS in the afternoon for the first session with students on web page authoring. Our timing was excellent. Lilydale have just completed installation of a new computer lab.
  • Visited Billanook PS as well to set up Front Page '98 on their server.
